Strategies to Improve Efficiency in Business
Learn practical strategies to improve efficiency in business, streamline workflows, and make better use of time and resources.
Efficiency in business starts with clarity—knowing exactly what needs to be done, why it matters, and how it should be executed. Without clear priorities, time and resources tend to get spread too thin, leading to unnecessary complexity and reduced output. Establishing defined goals and aligning daily activities around them creates a more focused workflow, where effort is directed toward outcomes that actually move the business forward.
One of the most effective ways to improve efficiency is by simplifying processes. This means identifying repetitive tasks, removing unnecessary steps, and standardizing workflows wherever possible. When processes are streamlined, teams spend less time navigating confusion and more time executing with confidence. Tools and systems can support this, but the real impact comes from designing processes that are easy to follow and maintain over time.
Time management also plays a critical role. High-performing businesses tend to structure work in a way that minimizes interruptions and maximizes productive periods. This often includes setting clear timelines, batching similar tasks, and creating space for focused work without constant context switching. When time is treated as a limited and valuable resource, it becomes easier to make decisions that protect it and use it more effectively.
Finally, efficiency improves when there is ongoing evaluation and adjustment. What works at one stage may not work at another, so regularly reviewing workflows, outcomes, and team feedback helps identify areas for improvement. By staying adaptable and willing to refine processes, businesses can maintain a level of efficiency that supports both short-term productivity and long-term growth.

You don’t need to be an artist to support an artistic child. In fact, many of the parents I work with are highly accomplished in fields far removed from the arts—medicine, law, finance, business, technology—and simply don’t have a frame of reference for evaluating a portfolio or understanding an art-school education.
That’s where an experienced art consultant can be enormously helpful. My role is to look objectively at where a student is now: their technical abilities, ideas, curiosity, work habits, creative voice, and potential for growth. From there, I can help families understand what is strong, what needs development, and what kind of college environment may allow that particular student to thrive.
A strong college counselor and a strong art teacher are both invaluable, but art-school admissions sits at the intersection of two highly specialized areas.
A college counselor may understand admissions but not necessarily how a portfolio is evaluated. An art teacher may know the student and their artwork extremely well but may not have extensive experience with the expectations of different art schools and university art programs., or simply does not have extra time to spend outside the class.
An independent art consultant can help bridge that gap—looking at the student, the portfolio, and the college list together rather than as separate pieces of the application.
The first meeting is much more of a conversation than an evaluation.
I want to see the student's work, of course, but I also want to know who they are. What do they make when no one assigns the project? What subjects keep appearing? What are they curious about? What frustrates them? Do they love drawing but hate graphic design? Are they fascinated by fashion, architecture, animation, sculpture, illustration, fibers, photography—or are they still figuring that out?
We begin by looking for patterns. From there, I can identify strengths, gaps in the portfolio, areas worth exploring, and questions we need to answer before deciding what comes next.
